Lengths of Time

It is so amazing to see how the lengths of time actually change. We can all remember how sitting in church or having to sit through a haircut as a kid seemed like to take forever but summer vacations in school just never lasted long enough.

I can remember back when I was the ring bearer for a wedding.  It was so long and boring, that wedding must have lasted for 3 hours!  I was also 5 years old.  Fifteen years later when I was to go to a wedding, I complained and explained that they are 3 hours long.  Boy was I wrong.  It is amazing what you can take as reality when you are an adult when you learned them though your childhood years.

I can remember when I got in trouble.  My mom sat me in the dining room and forbid me to speak or move from the chair for 5 minutes.  FIVE WHOLE MINUTES.  That was the longest 5 minutes of my life!  It truly was torturous.

As I think of other events that seemed extremely long or very short I remember the day I proposed to Christine.  That day seemed to last forever.  I waited for her to come home for what seemed an eternity.  And even if I ever did have to wait that long it would be worth it.

The shortest day of my life would be the day of our wedding.  It zipped by and all the memories are a blur.  Thank God for pictures.  Even though that day went very fast I can still remember looking into my wife's eyes as we said our vows.

I remember flunking my driver's test and having to wait 2 whole weeks to take it again.  That was the longest 2 weeks of my life.  Then when Christine and I went on our honeymoon it was the shortest two weeks.

Life sure changes and is full of surprises.  I am just glad to always have something to fall back on, my wife and my Lord, Jesus Christ.
